Meet Julia Minz, a resident of Bero, about 40 km from Ranchi, Jharkhand. She accomplished ninth position (Arts) in the state when Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) announced the Plus-II examination results last year. When the results came out, Julia was working with her mother as a manual labourer to supplement the family’s earnings.
Julia’s father passed away when she was only two years old. Since then, she has been spending her time helping her mother in harsh conditions at various construction sites. This, however, could not stop her from studying and excelling in academics. Julia wants to study further and become an IAS officer.
Following her phenomenal success, Julia received great recognition across Jharkhand, including a visit and appreciation by the state’s education minister, and the promise of a scholarship. In an Interview published in NDTV, she said, “I was not sure I would do so well. Sometimes poverty makes you feel you can’t rise above it. But today I can with pride that I have made an attempt.”
